Dr. Maria's Top 5 Tips: On Summer Skin Care

The summer sun can take its toll on your skin; but KDKA's Dr. Maria Simbra has some tips to help keep damaging sunburn and wrinkles at bay during the sultry months ahead.

Dr. Maria's Top 5 Tips: On Summer Skin Care:

Moisturize with sunscreen every day. Look for SPF of at least 15, and a sunscreen that blocks both sunburn-causing UVB and wrinkle and cancer-causing UVA rays.

Apply sunscreen generously. An adult should use enough to fill a shot glass. For a small child, use at least a tablespoon.

Reapply sunscreen often...especially if you sweat or get wet. Aim for every two hours.

Inspect your skin for any changes in moles or spots. The most common place for a melanoma (skin cancer) to go unnoticed -- for a man, his back; for a woman, the back of her leg.

A little exfoliation can help you maintain clear skin and a healthy glow. Just don't overdo it.
